Palatine Lowers Speed Limit on Portion of Colfax Street

Palatine recently reviewed the speed limits for all of Colfax Street under village jurisdiction after a concerned citizen pointed out an inconsistency on the limits posted.

Pay close attention to the speed limit posted on Colfax Street, as it is about to change.

At the May 21 village council meeting, Reid Ottesen, village manager, said that a resident contacted the village concerning whether the posted speed limit on Colfax Street, between Brockway and Smith Streets, should be reduced from 35 mph to 30 mph, as it is east of Brockway Street.

Currently the speed limit on Colfax Street, west of Brockway Street to Stephen Drive, is 35 mph and increases to 40 mph west of Stephen Drive. Ottesen said these speed limits date back to when all of Colfax Street was an unmarked state highway.
