Palatine Home Uninhabitable After Friday Night Fire

A home on Poplar Street sustained $50,000 in damages early Friday night after a fire broke out in the crawlspace.

A home on Poplar Street is now uninhabitable after a fire broke out early Friday night. 

The emergency call came in at 5 p.m. Friday, and reported a fire in the crawlspace of the home at 875 W. Poplar Street, according to a Palatine Fire Department press release. 

The first crews that arrived, the release states, observed heavy smoke emanating from the roof and first floor. Exterior walls and the ceiling were opened to allow firefighters to extinguish the fire.

The release states there were no injuries, but the home sustained fire, smoke and water damage, and was deemed uninhabitable. 

Damages are estimated at $50,000.

The cause of the fire, the release states, remains under investigation.

The Palatine Fire Department reminds all homeowners to have working smoke detectors and create an escape plan in the event of a fire.
