Palatine Good Samaritan Catches Car Burglar

Palatine Police said that a Good Samaritan stopped a car burglary in process, chased the suspect, and held the man until police arrived.

Terry Seawood, 57, of Chicago, was charged with one count of burglary in the incident. Police said that on Saturday, Jan. 14 a resident in the 1700 block of N. Rand Road noticed that a vehicle had its rear driver's side window smashed in the parking lot of a condominium complex.

The resident, who called police, then saw Seawood get out of the vehicle carrying numerous items. The resident chase Seawood on foot and caught him.

"He chased him down and physically restrained him. He was able to hold onto him until officers arrived," said Palatine Police Cmdr. Mike Seebacher.

Seebacher said Seawood had taken a Sony car stereo, 8 CDs, a wrench and a screwdriver from the vehicle. Seawood was charged with burglary and his bond was set at $100,000 with 10 percent needing to be posted.

Seebacher said the resident did not want his name to be released.

"We would not ask that people put themselves in that position over a property crime," Seebacher said. "But we do appreciate what he did."
