Palatine Fire Department Needs YOU Today

A blood drive will be held Thursday, June 6 by the Palatine Fire Department to honor Evanston Firefighter/Paramedic Gary Hicks, who is battling cancer.

The Palatine Fire Department, along with the Palatine Board of Health and Palatine Medical Reserve Corps are hosting a blood drive Thursday, in honor of a fellow firefighter who is battling cancer.

Evanston Firefighter/Paramedic (IAFF Local 742) Gary Hicks is facing a cancer diagnosis for the second time, and is currently undergoing aggressive chemotherapy. Gary is married with three young children; eight-year-old twin boys and a 10-year-old son.

"The need for blood is constant and ongoing. Every time you donate blood you can save the lives of three people as well. In addition, this is a great opportunity to have your own cholesterol level checked," a press release from the Village of Palatine Health Department states.

All participating donors will receive a commemorative carry-all bag, in addition to a free lunch.

The blood drive will be held Thursday, June 6 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Palatine Fire Station No. 84, 220 W. Illinois Avenue. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact LifeSource at 877-543-3768 or visit www.lifesource.org.

You can also go to any LifeSource Donor Center and use the Palatine FD Code "363C." Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged.
