One Killed In Three Car Route 12 Crash

A three vehicle crash left one person dead and halted traffic on Route 12.

A three-vehicle crash at 2:50 p.m., Thursday, March 24, at Route 12 and Honeylake Road has resulted in at least one fatality said Commander Kevin Finlon of the Lake Zurich Fire Department.

"We can't release anything else until the coroner makes notification," Finlon said.

Police arrived at the scene and determined that a vehicle traveling southbound on Route 12 left the roadway and struck a second vehicle and an individual outside the vehicle. The second vehicle was pushed into a third unoccupied vehicle. Two people requiring medical assistance were treated by the Lake Zurich Fire Department and transported to Good Shepherd Hospital.

This crash is being investigated by the Lake Zurich Police Department with assistance from the Lake County – Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) comprised of police personnel from Grayslake, Lincolnshire, Deerfield, Hawthorn Woods, and Lake Villa. 

Traffic on Route 12 was disrupted for more than 2½ hours. Southbound Route 12 traffic was reduced to one lane for the duration of the on-scene investigation of the incident.
