No One Injured in Palatine Apartment Building Fire

The Palatine Fire Department responded to a fire in the 400 block of East Osage Lane late Sunday morning.

No one was injured in a fire Sunday in a three-story apartment building at 460 E. Osage Lane that started in a kitchen on the second floor. The Palatine Fire Department was called at 11:07 a.m., and crews brought the fire under control in 15 minutes.

The resident was home at the time of the fire and was awakened by an activated smoke detector. The Palatine Police Department assisted residents out of the building prior to the arrival of the fire department.  Two residents on the third floor were found in their unit unharmed and were assisted out of the building by fire fighters.

The Palatine Fire Department was assisted by Arlington Heights.

The unit where the fire originated was deemed uninhabitable because of the damage. The remaining five units in the building were tenable. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and the damage estimates are not available.

The Palatine Fire Department stresses the importance of making sure all residents have a working smoke detector.  Batteries in the smoke detectors should be changed twice yearly and families should plan together on what to do if they have a fire in their home or apartment.
