Man Charged with Battering Mother, Endangering Child

A Palatine Police officer's nose was broken Sunday by an offender who was resisting arrest for domestic battery against his mother and endangering the life of his child.

Palatine Police arrested a man Sunday, Nov. 17 for allegedly battering his mother, who was babysitting his 6-week-old child at an apartment in the 1900 block of N. Hicks Road.

Jordan T. Nichols, 30, of Palatine, has been charged with one count each of Endangering the Life of a Child, Domestic Battery, Aggravated Battery and Resisting a Peace Officer. Nichols was taken to a bond hearing at the Cook County 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows Tuesday morning. Bond was set at $35,000.

Patch reported Nichols was previously arrested Oct. 18, 2013, and charged with DUIdisobeying a traffic control device, improper lane usage, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to notify secretary of state of change of address.

Police responded to a domestic battery call at 12:10 a.m. Sunday from a 58-year-old female victim, who reported she had been struck several times in the head by her son, according to a press release.

The victim said she was babysitting Nichols' 6-week-old child when he came home and appeared to be intoxicated. Not wanting to leave her grandchild in the care of her intoxicated son, the woman suggested that she continue watching the child while her son went to sleep.

A verbal argument ensued between the victim and Nichols, quickly escalating to where he battered his mother, reported police.

Police arrested Nichols after arriving at the apartment and observing the victim's injuries.

Nichols fought with officers as they attempted to take him custody into custody, which resulted in one of officers getting his nose broken after being head butted by Nichols, according to police. Both the injured officer and the victim were treated at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights and later released.
