Police Bust Local Crack Cocaine Ring

Authorities say they caught Rafael Russell selling crack cocaine to an undercover detective.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department arrested 24-year-old Rafael Russell of Round Lake Park, capping off a two week investigation.

Sheriff Mark Curran said Russell was part of a crack distribution ring that ran from Round Lake Beach to Waukegan. He was arrested when he conducted a hand-to-hand sale of $280 worth of crack cocaine to an undercover detective with the Special Investigations Unit.

Russell is charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and two counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

He is awaiting a bond hearing at the Lake County Courthouse.

Round Lake Park wasn't bad enough, now that kind of trash is moving in?

I know. It's terrible. It's systematically changing over...they are targeting certain areas and changing them over to Bad, then it's Theirs. I wonder if they go after the buyers, too?

They ought to go after the buyers as well it isn't fair to those who are quiet and hard working to have to be subjected to this trash. This is a nice area and IF our community would simply report any LOITERING in any area of Round Lake Park and Round Lake Beach, then we could successfully keep this trash out of our community. This community should not get such a bad rap. I just read that Barrington just arrested a bus driver who was molesting the students on the school bus. Check out that story, It came out today, Friday, July 6, 2012. Goes to show you that it doesn't matter where you live , that people are either decent or scum bags, regardless of the racial make up of the community. It is the community's responsibility as well to inform the police department what trash is loitering around your block. I do not blame how and why the Round Lake Park Police Department is so tough on those who are in their teens and 20s...this is ridiculous for any of us to allow this criminality no matter where we live. We moan and groan about paying taxes and yet we are responsible for putting those tax dollars to work. The Police in Round Lake Park are the best and we support their efforts 1000%. Keep our neighbors safe and back up your local police department.

Their are some bad apples, but we need to keep it safe by NOT allowing this garbarge to take over. It really is a mutual effort and we all need to take responsibility in the community that we live in. Barrington checks out every car and every new face that drives into their community. They really watch for one another and they do not complain whose job it is. It may be generic and over spoken, but it really does take a village an i would not take that very lightly. Take back your community. It is ricidulous when anyone sits back and says nothing. Support your Police department and keep your community safe. Go to the meetings. Contact the alderman. This is our right and our responsibility. Use that energy of complaining to go to the right representatives to make real change.
