Lightning Strikes Caused Two Fires In Palatine

The Palatine Fire Department responded to two house fires early Thursday morning.

The Palatine Fire Department responded to two fires that occurred within seconds of each other Thursday morning.

The first call was in the 200 block of S. Clyde Ave. at about 5:19 a.m. The fire department was on the scene within five minutes of the call. When firefighters arrived, fire was showing on the second floor of the two-story house, a press release from the department states.

Firefighters were able to contain most damage to the exterior of the home. The damage from the fire was initially estimated to be about $15,000. No one was injured.

The second fire occurred in the 300 block of N. Fremont St. The fire was reported in the attic of the residence. Firefighters were on the scene within four minutes of the call and found fire showing in the attic window.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control, but there was significant damage to the attic, estimated to be about $35,000, a press release from the department states. No one was injured in the fire.

Both fires are believed to have been caused by lightning.
