Investigation Shows Boy Ran Into Path of Minivan on Rand Road

Witnesses said they saw the boy and three others standing in the center median on Rand Road shortly before the accident.

The Palatine Police have released details as to how a 10-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle on Rand Road Sunday afternoon.

A preliminary investigation by the Palatine Police Department indicates there were four pedestrians standing in the center median that divides the north- and southbound lanes in the 1500 block of Rand Road. The pedestrians had already crossed the northbound lanes and were attempting to cross the southbound lanes, when a 2006 Honda minivan traveling south in the inside lane stopped because the driver saw the pedestrians standing in the median.

According to witnesses, when the minivan stopped in the inside lane, the boy ran towards the west curb into the path of a minivan in the outside curb lane.
