Investigation Into Shooting of Inverness Man Continues

Prosecutors are considering whether to file additional charges in the hunting accident that killed 44-year-old Inverness resident John Hanlon, The Journal-Standard reported.

Hanlon was killed and his 15-year-old son wounded during a hunting trip near East Dubuque. Kelly G. Jackson, 53, of East Dupubque was issued a citation for reckless conduct. Jackson and Hanlon were part of separate hunting parties and did not know each other.

Jackson discharged his 12-gauge shotgun at about 5:33 a.m., , a spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources told Patch. Hanlon and his son were hit by the same shot.

“The investigation is ongoing. There are some reports I’m waiting on,” Jo Daviess County State's Attorney Terry Kurt told The Journal-Standard. “Additional charges may be forthcoming.”

and his wife, Leslie, had four children. Hanlon worked for Deloitte for more than 16 years where he was an International Tax Partner for more than 12 years.

"John was an avid outdoorsman and compassionate friend….one….'Cool Dude'," . "He loved hunting, fishing and boating with his family. His greatest pleasure was watching and supporting his children play football, basketball, baseball, soccer and dance."
