Hoffman Estates Boy's Death A Mystery

An 11-year-old boy in Hoffman Estates died Saturday. The cause of his death is under investigation.

The death of an 11-year-old boy in Hoffman Estates remains a mystery after a Sunday autopsy was inconclusive, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Hoffman Estates police were called to a home in the 1200 block of Mallard Lane at 1:44 p.m. Saturday. Police said that the boy was unconscious and not breathing when they arrived. He was taken to Saint Alexius Medical Center and pronounced dead at 3 p.m.

The boy had a puncture wound to his chest, the Chicago Tribune reported, however, the wound was not a gunshot. The cause of the wound remains unclear, the newspaper reported.

Hoffman Estates Police are continuing to investigate the incident with assistance from the Cook County Forest Preserve Police Department. The boy's home was near forest preserve property.
