Fundraiser Planned for Palatine-Inverness Crime Stoppers Launch

The non-profit organization relies on private donations to reward anonymous tipsters who help solve crimes.

The newly formed Palatine-Inverness Crime Stoppers is holding a fundraiser on Valentines Day at Durty Nellies.

The non-profit organization is made up of citizens and business people from Palatine and Inverness, and relies on private donations to support monetary rewards of up to $1,000 given to tipsters whose information leads to an arrest.

According to a release from the organization, their mission is, "to promote community welfare by partnering with residents, law enforcement, and the media to create and promote a crime reporting mechanism which both rewards reporters of criminal activity and protects them from retaliation by maintaining complete anonymity".

Palatine and Inverness joined together in late 2012 after learning about a rape case that was solved through the Arlington Heights Crime Stoppers program, the release stated.

Palatine-Inverness Crime Stoppers shares a tip line of 847-590-7867 (STOP) with the Arlington Heights, Rolling Meadows, and Mount Prospect Crime Stoppers programs.

The fundraiser will be held on Valentines Day, February 14 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Durty Nellies, 180 N. Smith Street. It is open to the public, and will include raffles and t-shirts for sales.

Crime Stoppers is an international organization that originated in 1976 in New Mexico, where a crime tip solved a murder, the release states.
