Fire Causes $500,000 in Damage at Inverness Home

An Inverness home has a half a million dollars in damage after a basement fire occurred late last week.

The Palatine Rural Fire Protection District responded to the call Thursday from residents who live on Windsor Lane in Inverness, which came in at 4:51 p.m., according to a press release from the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District.

The residents of the two-story single family home came back to find the house filling with smoke from the basement. When emergency crews arrived there was no visible evidence of fire from the outside.

Along with the rural fire protection district, Palatine Engine 84 entered and found heavy smoke and heat in the basement, along with a smoldering fire that officials believe had flashed prior to arrival of firefighters, the release stated.

Fire officials are crediting the homeowners with closing the basement door, which they believe prevented further damage to the home.

The walls of the basement were heavily charred and the contents destroyed.

All of the homes' residents evacuated safely and no injuries were reported.

Early damage estimates are approximately $500,000 and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Palatine Rural Fire Protection District also was assisted by fire departments from Rolling Meadows, Barrington, Hoffman Estates, Buffalo Grove, Fox River Grove, Long Grove, West Dundee, Schaumburg, East Dundee and Prospect Heights.
