Fire at Palatine Payless ShoeSource

No one was injured in a fire at , 639 E. Dundee Rd., that started in the back room of the store.

The Palatine Fire Department was called at 12:44 p.m. An employee of the store reported that there was a fire behind the refrigerator in the back of the store. An employee of a neighboring business used a portable extinguisher, but was unable to put it out completely.

Palatine firefighters arrived on the scene about three minutes after receiving the call and found smoke in the showroom area. The firefighters used fire extinguishers to put the fire out.

The store was not badly damaged was open for business Tuesday evening.

There were no customers in the store at the time and all of the employees were able to evacuate.

The Palatine Fire Department was assisted by Arlington Heights and Long Grove.
