Woman Tried to Cut Off Husband's Penis: Booking Photo Released

Virginia Valdez, 69, was booked late Saturday at Smith Correctional in Banning and released Sunday on $100,000 bail, according to inmate records.

A booking photo was released Monday of a Palm Springs woman who allegedly tried to cut off her husband's penis with a pair of scissors.

Virginia Valdez, 69, was arrested Saturday evening on suspicion of mayhem, spousal abuse and assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

About 5:45 p.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Rochelle Road, Palm Springs police Sgt. Melissa Desmarais said in a statement.

"Officers made contact with a 62-year-old male victim who reported that his wife had attempted to sever his penis with scissors, resulting in injuries to the area," Desmarais said.

The man was treated at a local hospital for the non-life threatening wound, Desmarais said. He was released from the hospital. His name was not released.

"The weapon was recovered from the scene and the investigation remains ongoing at this point," Desmarais said.

Valdez was taken to Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, where she was booked on three felonies just before midnight Saturday, according to inmate records.

The 5-foot-4-inch, 145-pound woman was released Sunday on $100,000 bail, according to inmate records. She has a court appearance scheduled Jan. 31 in Indio.

Palm Springs is a desert resort city at the east end of the San Gorgonio Pass in Riverside County, east of Los Angeles and San Diego.

Lost in all this chaos is man's ability to grow another organ, usually within a month or so.
