Blotter: Lock Cut at Gym, Cars Burglarized and More

Lock Removed in Motor Vehicle Burglary

Someone removed the locking mechanism and punched out the ignition of a Ford 5150 Truck parked in the lot of Galaxy Hand Car Wash at 2232 N. Rand Road, sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7. When the victim returned to the truck, the front driver’s side door was standing wide open and a gym bag full of $500 worth of tools was gone. The cost of the damage to the truck is unknown.

SUV Parked in Driveway for 20 Minutes Burglarized

Parked in a driveway on the 800 block of E. Kings Row, a silver Mazda SUV was burglarized around 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8. Inside for just 20 minutes, the victim returned to the vehicle to find a black purse, a silver iPod valued at $200 and a cell phone valued at $300 had been taken from the SUV. The victim was not sure if the vehicle was locked, there were no signs of forced entry. 

Burglar Broke In, Took Nothing

Sometime between 5:40 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 an unknown offender entered an unlocked vehicle that was parked inside a garage on the 500 block of S. Echo Lane. When the victim returned home, the garage door and the door to the Lincoln sedan was left open but nothing had been removed from the car. An old wallet, miscellaneous CDs and other items were taken the center console of the car and left scattered on the driver’s seat. 

Locker Theft

A padlock was cut from a locker at World’s Gym located at 1546 E. Dundee Road, Saturday, Oct. 6. Sometime between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. a black gym bag containing an Apple iPhone and a wallet with $120 cash, credit cards, a driver’s license and social security card inside were stolen from one of the gym’s lockers. When the victim returned to the locker room all of the contents were gone, the only thing left inside the locker was the lock. 

Bicycles Stolen

Three bicycles were reported stolen from the communal garage of a Palatine apartment complex on the 1100 block of E. Nichols Road around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4. The three bicycles, a blue and orange men’s Trek model 4300 valued at $300, a blue men’s Trek model 8830 valued at $300 and a men’s Huffy Cruiser were taken from the garage sometime between Oct. 1 and Oct. 4. 

Mailbox Smashed

Criminal damage to property reported on the 2100 block of W Boarders Drive Monday Oct. 8.  Sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. someone hit a mailbox with so much force it snapped the post near the base. The cost of the damage is not known.
