911 Called by Man Who Died in Pond Accident

Henry Laseke, 89, who died of accidental drowning in a retention pond on Thursday, attempted to call 911 as the tragedy unfolded, according to the Daily Herald.

Henry Laseke, 89, of Arlington Heights died Thursday of accidental drowning after his SUV drove into a retention pond near his home in Arlington on the Pond, according to the Daily Herald.

The paper also reported that Laseke made one of several emergency calls to 911 as the accident was unfolding. Two neighbors witnessed the car going into the pond and attempted to rescue the man, to no avail. 

Dozens of neighbors watched early Thursday morning as emergency responders pulled Laseke from his vehicle. It was apparent at the scene to witnesses that he did not survive after being submerged

Prior to the vehicle ending up in the water, witnesses said he hit a support pole and an electrical unit which caused a fire in the Arlington on the Pond subdivision. 

According to the Daily Herald, it is not yet evident was caused Laseke to hit the objects before entering the pond
