Winter weatherization tips from the ComEd Energy Doctor
As fall weather quickly approaches, make weatherization and insulation of your home a priority. Your home’s insulation, outer walls, ceiling, doors, windows and floors all work together to control airflow in and out of your house. They also work to prevent heat from being lost or gained inside your home. When they’re properly sealed and insulated, you can save significant amounts of energy and lengthen their useful lifespans.
Check for gaps and cracks around windows and doors. One surprising fact: uninsulated mail slots can allow air to leak into or escape from your home, causing a loss of both energy and money.
Next, because heat flows naturally from a warmer to a cooler space, make sure your home’s walls and attic are properly insulated.
