Disc Golf Tournament a Success!

The inaugural Margreth Riemer Reservoir Open Disc Golf Tournament attracted 38 talented disc golf players from around the area including a few from out of the state! The course was recently expanded to a full 18 holes. The tournament consisted of two rounds of play on the course. The tournament rounds were followed by a raffle drawing and the ring of fire competition for a brand new portable disc golf basket.

The tournament was generously sponsored by a variety of area businesses and disc golf companies, including:
Plastic Addicts Disc Golf
American Chartered Bank
Crosslap Discs
7-11 at Palatine Rd. and Quentin
Walgreens on Euclid and Quentin Roads
DGA
Midwest Disc Golf

The community is invited to play the course at Margreth Riemer. Play is free and reservations are not required. Players just need to bring their own discs, which can be purchased here in Palatine at the 7-11 at Quentin and Palatine and at the Walgreens at Quentin and Euclid.

The course is open sunrise to dusk daily, April 15 through October 15. All 9 holes include Mach 3 baskets and tee markers with signsindicating hole location, distance, and par. The course is non-supervised and no reservations are needed. Bring your own disc.

Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disc or frisbee. The disc/frisbee is thrown from a tee to a basket, which is the “hole”. As a player progresses down the fairway, he or she must make each consecutive shot from the spot where the previous throw landed. Finally, the “putt” lands in the basket and the hole is completed. The object is to throw the disc/frisbee from the tee area to the target “basket” in the fewest number of throws.
