Wine Tasting Fundraiser to Benefit ICompete Program

Wine Tasting Fundraiser will benefit programs through ICompete for underserved youth in Palatine.

The second annual ICompete Wine Tasting Fundraiser will be held on Thursday, January 17 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at The Wine Cellar, 361 W. Northwest Highway, Palatine. Proceeds from the event will benefit ICompete Youth Programs. Tickets are $20 per person for tastings and appetizers. The event, for those 21 and older, will also include raffle prizes and a 50/50 raffle, and 10% of all store sales will be donated to ICompete. To purchase tickets, or for more information, please contact Cristina Lara at 847-496-6305 or clara@palatineparks.org.

ICompete is a collaborative partnership with the Palatine Park District, Palatine Opportunity Center, Palatine High School, District 15, and Buehler YMCA.  Each partner provides a unique and integral part in the development, implementation, funding, and support of each program. ICompete programs include the after school club, summer athletic clinics, special events, swim program, teen nights, summer camp, the Pirate Passport program, and more.

The mission of ICompete is to introduce underserved families to athletics, arts, and academics by breaking down the barriers of access to better prepare for life experiences. The goal of the program is to stimulate interest, provide academic support, and increase opportunities to participate in organized sports, clubs or community programs.

According to Cristina Lara, Community Outreach Coordinator at Palatine Park District, “ICompete has touched the lives of over 6,192 people over the last six years.” This number includes the children and families that participated in the programs along with the high school volunteers who gave back their time through teaching, tutoring, and mentoring.  Reaching out to these families has increased personal involvement and growth in community participation.

Ms. Lara added, “ICompete programs allow participants to develop the skills to make safe choices, get involved in their school and community, and learn how to be competitive in this complex world. Proceeds from the annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser allow us to achieve these goals.”
