Palatine Park District Presents Annual Fishing Derby on May 12

Annual Palatine Park District Fishing Derby returns to Plum Grove Reservoir on May 12

Members of the Palatine Community are cordially invited to Palatine Park District’s Plum Grove Reservoir next Saturday, May 12, from 8:00am to 12:00pm for the Annual Park District Fishing Derby.  The event promises to be an amazing day of catch and release fishing for all ages thanks to the staff members who stocked the pond several weeks ago with a variety of fish including Hybrid Sunfish, Bass, Channel Catfish, Perch, Carp, Bullhead and Northern.  This family friendly event has been offered to the community every fall by the Palatine Park District since 1991.  This year’s Fishing Derby has been moved to a new date in order to take advantage of the spring mating season.  According to the experts at the West Suburban Bass Anglers Club, this is a better time of year for fishing, when the fish are more apt to be biting.

The registration fee for the event is just $3 and can be paid upon arrival at Plum Grove Reservoir, located on Algonquin Road near Harper College.  And for that small sum, you are in for a full day of fun!  The event will include largest fish competitions in 4 categories:  Bass, Catfish, Northern, and Other.  Prizes will be awarded and raffles will be held throughout the event as well thanks to our generous sponsors including Salmon Shop of Palatine, Lucky Dog Charters, Cabela’s, Daily Herald Media Group, Angler’s International Resources, and Ram Restaurant.

This is the second year that the West Suburban Bass Anglers Club has been involved with the event.  These area fishing experts will be at the reservoir throughout the day sharing their love of this outdoor sport.  This year they are once again sponsoring the Kids Casting Contest complete with prizes donated by the club.  The West Suburban Bass Anglers Club (WSBA) was formed in 2002 and is a member of the Illinois Bass Federation Nation.  According to their website, www.westsuburbanbassanglers.com, they have enjoyed fellowship and a little friendly competition since the club’s inception while fishing the lakes and rivers throughout northern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin.  The club has anglers of all skill levels and abilities, and they pride themselves on helping each other and their surrounding communities enjoy bass fishing and conservation to their fullest. The club participates in ten tournaments from April through September with a format consisting of two divisions:  boater and non-boater draw tournaments.  Points are accumulated throughout the season in competition for the title of Angler of the Year.  You can see them in action, and take home some of their expertise, at this year’s Palatine Park District Fishing Derby!
