Palatine Historical Society Presents Fall Programs

The Palatine Historical Society is dedicated to the collection, preservation and exhibition of local history and memorabilia. This fall, in line with this mission, they will be presenting a History Crawl and two monthly programs. 

Did you know that Palatine had its own railroad? Do you know where Palatine’s movie theater was located? What businesses have been at the corner last occupied by Mia Cucina? These questions and more will be answered during the Palatine Historical Society’s 2nd annual History Crawl. The History Crawl will be held on Friday, September 7 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, beginning at the corner of Bothwell and Slade in downtown Palatine. Participants will then be led through town stopping at seven places of historical significance in the village. This year’s stops include all new locations, with stories told by costumed actors and docents who will share the history of each location, the business establishments that resided there and the events that took place. The crawl will end at for some light refreshments. Tickets are available through Friday, September 7 at the Clayson House Museum, 224 E. Palatine Road, and at the Community Center, 250 E. Wood Street for $10. Tickets can also be purchased at the crawl starting point on September 7 for $15.

In addition to the History Crawl, the Palatine Historical Society will present two monthly meetings and presentations in September and October. On Wednesday, September 19, join Andy Plummer, a local Palatine resident, for “Cook County Expressways & Tollways.” Andy will be sharing his research of how the construction of expressways in Chicago in the late 50’s impacted the lives of our neighborhood residents.  On Wednesday, October 17, Board President Joe Petykowski will present a program on Palatine’s own railroad, “The PLZ&W-Palatine, Lake Zurich and Wauconda Railroad.” These monthly programs are free and open to the public. They will be held at 7:00pm at the Palatine Library, 700 North Court, Palatine.
