Palatine Historical Society Offers a Wide Variety of Community Events

Palatine Historical Society presents discussion, cemetery walk and garden tour.

The Palatine Historical Society, in association with the Palatine Park District, is offering several events for the community.

On Wednesday, May 16, a General Meeting of the Palatine Historical Society will be held at 7:00pm at the Palatine Public Library, 700 North Court, Palatine. The public is invited to attend this program featuring Ronald Solberg, author of “The Whizbangs of Oohs and Ahs.” Mr. Solberg will present a discussion on those magnificent traveling salesmen of Illinois. Mr. Solberg grew up as the son of a Fuller Brush Man, and became a door-to-door salesman himself to work his way through college. He will share the pitches and scams, the successes and failures, and the humor surrounding this profession. This program is made possible through a grant from the Illinois Humanities Council.

On Sunday, May 20, the community is invited to learn about the people who lived and died in Palatine. The annual Cemetery Walk will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Hillside Cemetery, on Smith Road just north of Colfax Street. The walk will include costumed actors revealing the life stories of select former residents, with a focus this year on those who served in the Civil War. At 2:30pm, a special presentation will be held. The event is $5 for adults, $4 for members, and $2 for children under 16, payable at the event.  Proceeds from this event will be used for maintenance of Palatine Township cemeteries.
