Palatine Battle of the Bands

Four teen bands are to perform on June 10 at Fred P. Hall Amphitheater.

Palatine Park District and Salt Creek Park District present the 2013 Palatine Battle of the Bands at 7:00pm on Monday, June 10 at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 East Palatine Road, Palatine, IL 60067. Admission to the battle on June 10 is free. Prizes for the bands this year have been provided by The Drum Pad and The Music Room.

The four chosen bands will perform for the public and a panel of judges on June 10. One band will be selected to advance to the Illinois Battle of the Bands Regional competition, an Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) event. Regional winners advance to the Illinois State Battle of the Bands Finals held in Springfield on August 17. Additionally, the Village of Palatine will select a band to perform at Palatine Street Fest in August, the Palatine Jaycees will select a band to perform at their Hometown Fest in July, and a band will be selected to perform at Mac’s On Slade.

The following four bands will be competing at this year’s Palatine Battle of the Bands:

4th Point

Matt Ellis (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Andrew Denning (lead guitar/background vocals), Bryce Knight (bass guitar), Bradley Kus (drums)

Band Bio: 4th Point is a Christian rock band. They bring a high level of energy and passion to their performances. They love a great audience response and promote audience participation during several of their songs. They not only perform cover songs, but they also write and perform their own songs. They met at their middle school and got together at their church youth group. They would like to continue writing new songs, promoting their music, and getting their message out through their music. They love to perform and would like to continue playing at various types of events, such as church youth groups, retreats, conferences and local festivals.

 

Nothing Yet

Brad Kolar (guitar/vocals), Dean Kolar (drums), Dean Roehrborn (bass), Jake Van Wolvelear (Piano), Tom Schneider (guitar)

Band Bio: Nothing Yet is a band from the Winston Park subdivision in Palatine that plays classic and alternative rock from the 60’s through today. All members attended Winston Campus Junior High, most were part of the Jazz Band there, and all are currently attending Palatine High School. The band has goals of playing in additional area contests and has started experimenting with their own material.

 

Selective Amnesia

Tyler Strahl (lead/rhythm guitar), Brad Guerra (bass), Chris Guerra (lead/rhythm guitar), Maggie Ward (vocals), Justin Davis (drums)

Band Bio: These five musicians are all students of El Rey Music Center in Arlington Heights. They met there and quickly became friends and immediately meshed together as a band. Their hard hitting sound and energetic style is way beyond their years. Selective Amnesia wants to continue to grow together as musicians and have fun while doing so!

 

Stargazer

Eric Breden (drums), Matt O’Connor (guitar/vocals), Thomas Witte (guitar/vocals), Alex Zelasko (guitar)

Band Bio: Stargazer plays 70’s and 80’s rock and current music. They are high school friends with a deep interest in playing music and having fun! They are two time battle of the bands winners who continue to play, evolve and entertain. They played their first show at The Alley in Highwood in January.
