July Is Jumping at Palatine Park District

Palatine Park District offers plenty of options for summertime family fun!

The kids have been out of school for an entire month now, and the whole family is probably looking for something new to fill these long and incredibly hot summer days. Luckily, the Palatine Park District has a variety of options that are sure to please everyone in your house.

Pirates Over 40 (July 12)
On Thursday, July 12, this fun tropical band will perform at the Family Aquatic Center from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.  The concert is free with paid daily admission or with a summer pool pass. The event will include giveaways for both adults and children, and it’s a float night! Bring your own flotation device and listen while floating in the cool of the pool. Pirates Over 40 is a band that features tropical and popular songs the whole family will enjoy.

Barefoot Hawaiians (July 13)
On Friday, July 13, Barefoot Hawaiians return to Towne Square for the first Friday Lunch Special of 2012. The free performance begins at noon featuring this professional and authentic Polynesian-style performing troupe. Their show includes dramatic drumming, vibrant costumes, and information about the customs of the islands.

Windy City AllStars Drumline (July 18)
At 10:30am on Wednesday, July 18th, the Windy City AllStars Drumline group will be performing at the Community Center Gymnasium. Experience this rhythmic sensation – tickets are just $6 each. www.cuttinghall.org.

Palatine Track and Field Night (July 18)
Don’t miss this evening of track and field fun  – for the whole family! Age divisions start at 6 and under and go right on up through the 60 and over age group. This event will be held at the Palatine High School Track and is free for anyone registered in the PPD track and field camp. The fee is just $1 for ages 6 and under and $3 for ages 7 and over for non-campers. Registration will only be taken on the day of the event, July 18. Warm-ups begin at 5:15pm with events being held from 6pm to 8pm. For complete details, visit www.palatineparks.org.

Tween Pool Party (July 20)
An annual favorite among the tween crowd, this year’s event features a new DJ to keep the party going! The event will take place at Birchwood Pool on Friday, July 20 from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. The fee is $5 in advance or $8 at the door.

Arts in the Park (July 21)
This free summer event is planned by Northwest Special Recreation Association and the Palatine Park District. The entire family is invited to the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater and Community Park for a day of performing and visual arts from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, July 21. Just announced: Classical Guitarist Steven Vazquez will be performing at 11am! He is a Chicago Artists International Program award recipient who has studied around the world.  To pre-register for Arts in the Park, call 847-392-2848. On-site registration will also be accepted at the event.

Kids Rule Wednesday Night (July 25)
The last time the kids ruled at Falcon, on June 27, games included dodgeball, kickball, capture the flag, and team relays for prizes. Watch for similar games and some new ones at the next event scheduled for Wednesday, July 25 from 6pm to 9pm at Falcon Park Recreation Center. The fee is $1 for pre-registration, or $3 at the door.  Pizza, pop, popcorn and candy are also available for purchase at the event. 

Harper College Jazz Ensemble (July 26)
The Harper College Jazz Ensemble will be performing on July 26 as part of the Fourth Thursday concert series sponsored by TCF Bank. This group will showcase exceptionally talented vocalists along with some great improvisational jazz. The free concert begins at 6:30pm at Towne Square at the corner of Palatine and Smith.

Sounds of Summer
And then there are the July Sounds of Summer concerts, perfect evenings for a picnic and a little free family entertainment. Concerts are held at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 E. Palatine Road, beginning at 8:00pm. July performances include:

Wednesday, July 11:  Palatine Concert Band
Friday, July 20: Triadd
Wednesday, July 25:  Palatine Children’s Chorus
Friday, July 27: Bopology
