Wednesday, December 11th, the Palatine High School Band program will feature the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and newly formed Wind Symphony at their Winter Band Concert. The band program will be performing a number of wind band works, including Gustav Holst’s “First Suite in E-Flat.”
Originally composed in 1909, the “First Suite” is considered to be one of the first original works written for the modern wind ensemble. Additionally, “Vesuvius” will also be performed, which was written by Frank Ticheli. Ticheli is a contemporary composer and has had orchestral works performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta and Detroit Symphonies.
Finally, selections from a transcription of Handel’s Messiah will be performed. This oratorio was first performed in 1742 and is Handel’s most famous musical composition.
