The State of Teaching

Many people do not realize that experienced teachers are locked out of jobs by most school districts because of the contracts that the districts have with local unions that require that the district pay teachers according to their experience.  Many unemployed teachers are working as substitutes for $15 (gross) or less per hour with no benefits performing the same duties as a classroom teacher.  The irony is that society claims to value education but the actual dollar amount is very close to minimum wage for those providing the education.
