Mother's Day is coming up and I hope your family goes all out and makes your special day memorable.
But, stop for a minute and think about what would make that day special. What could your family do to make you feel like the best Mom in the world? If we don't tell our family what we want, we run the risk of being disappointed, right?
And, based on a lot of the comments I've seen on parenting sites and Mom blogs, there's a lot of disappointment out there. So, Moms, what do you really want for Mother's Day?
Do you have traditions that you look forward to every year? "I usually work on Mother's Day, so we start off with early Mass followed by breakfast with my mom. We also try and visit the cemetery where my husband's mother is buried to bring flowers. In the afternoon, my kids/hubby come to work with chocolates for me and the other working moms. Afterward work, the kids always make dinner and let me pick whatever I want to do - movie, resting, family game night. Best of all, they promise not to fight or disagree with each other all day." Nice!
Mother's Day at my house usually involves brunch (I love a good brunch) and gardening. We buy our summer flowers and spend the day outside planting together. I really look forward to it. Better Homes and Gardens magazine has a nice round-up of Mother's Day tradition ideas. Feel free to pass that link along to some people in your family.
Or, do you want to be surprised? While I look forward to brunch and planting flowers, I would be thrilled if the family surprised me with an adventure. A day trip to a Museum, the Botanical Gardens, or a shopping trip to Galena would be lovely. Since I am the social planner for our family, it would be incredibly special if someone else set up the plans for a change.
Do you want the day off? I know some women look forward to Mother's Day as a day off. They go to a spa or hang with their girlfriends all day to relax. It's a chore-free, chauffeuring-free, and kitchen duty-free treat.
Or, do you want to spend the day with your family? Mother's Day should be about doing something fun ... Mom's choice, of course. So skip the chores and indulge in some playtime. Another Patch.com reader, Monique Z. shared, "Mother's Day will be sleeping in late, then bike riding or swimming at Midtown's pool, with hope that I will not have to plan dinner!"
So, let's hear it. Are you hoping for a flowers, brunch, chocolate, some time off, some time alone in the bathroom, a whine-free day, or just a day full of love? What do you really want for Mother's Day?

2 1/2 hr. movie and we came back home. He had taken that time to bake a beautiful decorated cake from scratch to surprise us both. This cake was absolutely awful! My mother and I ate the cake as best we could, but even my husband knew it was like lead weight! We all ended up having a great laugh over his disaster. This is my most memorable Mothers Day, because he took charge of the kids and went out of his way to do something totally foreign to him. It was a real and true giving of himself. Now my children are all adults with their own children and I so appreciate and look forward too any call or cards/flowers I get from them...
