Richard J. 'Dick' Smagur, 78, Formerly of Palatine

Richard J. "Dick" Smagur, 78, of Round Lake Park, and formerly of Palatine, passed away peacefully on Jan. 5, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, in Palatine.

The funeral Mass will begin Friday, Jan. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2515 Palatine Road, in Inverness, where he will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass. Father Terence Keehan will officiate.

Richard was born Oct. 4, 1935, in Chicago. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. 

Survivors include his wife, Donna C. (nee Pintozzi) Smagur, children, Susan (Michael) Olszewski, Richard (Renee) Smagur Jr., Karla Smagur and Douglas Smagur; eight grandchildren; step-children, Laura (Joseph) Sullivan, Robert Jagla; three step-grandchildren; and brother, Jerry (late Mariellyn) Smagur.

Richard was preceded in death by his first wife Mary A. (nee Mueller) Smagur and his parents, Joseph and Lorraine (Nee Malsewicz) Smagur.
