Obituary: Thomas James Maloney, Sr.

Maloney, 82, was a Korean War veteran, a deacon at St. Thomas of Villanova for 25 years and a longtime Palatine resident.

Tom Maloney, Sr. was born on April 23rd, 1930 in Gary, Indiana, the son of the late Patrick and Helen (nee: McCall), and passed away on Tuesday, March 5th.

Beloved husband of Virginia (Smith) Maloney and his late 1st wife Bernadette (nee: Walker) Maloney; loving father of Mary Clare Maloney and Thomas (Kerry) Maloney, Jr.; cherished grandfather of Patrick and Quinn Geregach, Griffin, Kendall and Logan Maloney; dear brother of Fr. Patrick Maloney, Clare Maloney and preceded by his siblings Sr. Mary Catherine Maloney, Helen Skelton, John and Richard Maloney.

Tom was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, and was a very proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame.  He went on to work as an accountant and in marketing.  Tom loved people and had a heart to serve others.  He was very active in the church and was invited to join the deaconate.  He served as a deacon at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church for more than 25 years.

Visitation for Tom will be held on Monday, March 11th from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. Respects can be paid starting at 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 10 .m., Tuesday March 12th at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1201 E. Anderson Drive, Palatine.  Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.

Memorials in memory of Tom would be appreciated for the Arthritis Foundation of Greater Chicago, 35 E.Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL  60601.
