Obituary: Mary T. “May” Kinsella of Palatine

Mary T. "May" Kinsella, a close to 60 year Palatine resident, will be honored and remembered on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mary T. “May” Kinsella, 89, of Palatine since 1955 was born April 12, 1923 to Edward and Rose (nee Murphy) Phillips in Ardee, County Louth, Ireland; and she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at the Pepper Family Hospice Home in Barrington.

May was the Beloved wife of the late James Kinsella; loving mother of Professor Maureen (Cathy Brown) Kinsella, Irene (John) Bynum, and the Honorable Judge John J. (Louise) Kinsella and the late Patrick E. Kinsella; loving grandmother of James, Amanda, Sean, Robert, Ryan, Brendan, Paige, Drake and Hailey; fond sister of Anne (Joseph) O’Connor and Edith (late Edward) O’Callaghan, and the late Rose, Kathleen, Julia and Maureen.

May married James Kinsella September 10, 1947 in Dublin, Ireland, and then they moved to Glasgow, Scotland, and immigrated to the United States in 1953.

She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church since 1955, a member of the St. Margaret Mary Guild, a tailor and a seamstress.  May also was an award winning ballroom dancer when she was young. 

A good friend to all, who only saw the good in everyone, she taught her grandchildren to be loyal to their friends and to be good, true and kind. 

The visitation will be held Tuesday, March 5th, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy, Palatine, IL 60067.

Prayers for May will begin at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 6 at the funeral home; and after prayers proceeding to St. Theresa Catholic Church, 455 N. Benton St. Palatine, IL, 60067 for a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m.  

Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.

Memorials would be appreciated to the Hospice Foundation of Northeastern Illinois for The Pepper Family Hospice Home, 405 Lake Zurich Rd., Barrington, IL 60010.

The family would like to offer special thanks to her caregivers, Margaret More and Danuta Wojtach.

Everyone loved Auntie May. She took good care of me when my mother was working and made sure I got to kindergarten. I seemed to spend as much time at her house as I did at mine.
