Obituary: John D. Mason of Palatine

John was a Vietnam marine corps veteran and bronze star recipient. Visitation will be Thursday and he will be laid to rest on Friday.

John D. Mason, 69, of Palatine passed away on August 26. 

He was the beloved husband of Diane, nee Kozlowski and the late Shirlee, nee Vandenberg; loving father of Bill (Tracy Merrigan) Mason, Katie Mason, Michael (Paola) Zemla, Michelle Zemla and Russell (Tracy) Zemla; proud grandfather of Tyler Zemla, Juan Delgado, Matthew Zemla, Jessica Zemla and Gavin Zemla; dear brother of Bruce (Diana), Jim (Nancy), Bob (Penny), Gordy, Andy and Mary Anne (Mike) Mason; fond uncle to many nieces and nephews and great friend to many. 

John was a graduate of Fenwick H.S., University of St. Thomas, St. Paul MN, and University of Kansas where he received his MBA. A Vietnam Marine Corps Veteran, John proudly received a bronze star for Combat Valor. An avid fisherman and reader, John loved history and American Indian Culture. His greatest love was his family. A former VP of Marketing and Sales, John later became a proud owner of multiple car washes over the past 19 years. 

Visitation Thursday, August 29, 3-9 PM at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Hwy., Palatine and Friday, August 30, 9:30-10:15 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness.  A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 AM. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John's name to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 would be appreciated.
