Martin A. Schwall, 89

Services for Martin Schwall have been scheduled.

Services for Martin A. Schwall will begin with prayers on Thursday May 12 at 9:15 a.m. at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, proceeding to St. Colette Catholic Church, 3900 S. Meadow Drive, Rolling Meadows for Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Entombment and military honors will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum, Arlington Heights.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday May 11.

Martin was born on Aug. 3, 1921 in Ipswich, SD the son of the late Robert H. Sr. and Sophie (Huber) Schwall and passed away peacefully at his home on Monday May 9.

Martin served his country as a Marine during World War II. He served from September 1943 to January 1945 and was involved in the Pacific Theater of Operations. This campaign included the Bismark Archipelago Operation, Consolidation of Northern Solomon Islands, Defense of Piva Yoke and the capture and occupation of Guam, Marianas Islands. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant prior to receiving an honorable discharge.

He married Jeanette in January 1945. After leaving military service Martin briefly owned and operated a Gambles Hardware Store in Faulkton, SD then relocated to Chicago where he entered the Carpenters Union as an apprentice. He worked as a carpenter until he retired in 1983.

Martin was a long time resident of Palatine and resided in the home he built in 1957. He was the beloved husband of the late Jeanette (Sudar) Schwall for 55 years; loving father of Kathleen (Paul) Boley, Nancy (John Bowman) Schwall, Gregory Schwall and Kenneth M. (Penny) Schwall; cherished grandfather of Christopher, Melissa, Heather, Jennifer, Ashley, Emily, Shawn, Brook, Erin, Regan and the late Kerry Palka; great grandfather of Chloe; fond brother of Bernice Jorczak and the late Robert Jr., David & Catherine.
