Leonard C. Luerssen, 94

Services for Leonard Luerssen have been scheduled.

Visitation for Leonard C. Luerssen will be held at the , 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine on Thursday May 12 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday May 13 from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 200 N. Plum Grove Road, Palatine.

Interment will follow at Palatine-Hillside Cemetery, Palatine where Leonard  had been the sexton for more than 30 years.

 Leonard was born on Aug. 25, 1916 in Palatine the son of the late Henry and Alma (Wente) Luerssen and passed away peacefully on Sunday, Mothers Day, May 8 at the DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in DeKalb where Leonard had resided for the past 3 years.

 Leonard was born and raised on the farm in Palatine and helped with all the responsibilities of living on the farm, including milking cows, planting crops, bailing hay and everything else that goes with being a farmer. On March 1, 1941 he married his sweetheart Ottilie Boettcher and moved to Dundee where he and his wife began their own farming career.

Around 1945 he returned to Palatine where he continued farming until the time he sold it in 1962. Leonard then went to work as a truck driver for Bergman Trucking until retiring to manage his investment properties in Palatine.

Leonard will be remembered as a fun loving man who enjoyed meeting people and helping them in any way he could. He loved a good practical joke and making people laugh.

Beloved husband of  the late Ottilie (Boettcher) Luerssen; loving father of Mary (Robert) Bohne of Genoa, IL; cherished grandfather of: Robert L., Mary  Frances and Scott H. Bohne; great grandfather of Owen Bohne; fond brother of  Marion (Vernon) Bergman and the late Betty (late John) Cipri and late Alice Luerssen; also survived by many nieces and  nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated for the DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Activity Department, 2600 N. Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb, IL  60115.
