Benjamin John Stepp, 13, of Palatine

Services scheduled for 13-year-old Benjamin John Stepp of Palatine. Benjamin died unexpectedly on Sunday after he slipped from a rope swing at a family reunion in downstate Effingham.

Funeral Mass for Benjamin John Stepp will be held on Friday, August 31 at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Palatine. Benjamin will be laid to rest at in Palatine at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery immediately following the Mass.  Visitation will be on Thursday, August 30 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home located at 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine.

Benjamin was born on December 15, 1998 the deeply loved son of Timothy and Teresa (nee Reedy) . 

Ben was an honor role student at Sundling Jr. High School in Palatine and also played his trumpet in the school band.  Ben was an active Scout with Boy Scout Troop # 182 of Palatine where he had recently been inducted into the Order of the Arrow. He was also a member of the Palatine Park District Tiger Sharks Swim Team.

Ben is survived by his loving parents Timothy and Teresa Stepp; his dear brother Matthew; his devoted grandparents Gerald and Barbara (nee Niemann) Reedy and John and Toni (nee Vasilopoulos) Stepp; dear uncles and aunts Chris (Kathy) Reedy, Jill and Meg Reedy, Nick (Terry) Stepp and Irene (Ken) Korpan; Ben also leaves behind 10 cousins and many cherished friends.  He will be deeply missed by all.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Ben to Boy Scout Troop #182 C/O Presbyterian Church of Palatine, 800 E. Palatine Road, Palatine, IL 60067 or the PPD Tiger Shark Swim Team, C/O Palatine Park District, 250 E. Wood Street, Palatine, IL  60067.
