Suburban Progressives Watch State of the Union

More than 100 suburban progressives watched President Obama deliver his State of the Union address Tuesday in Arlington Heights.

More than 100 suburban progressives watched President Obama deliver his State of the Union address Tuesday in Arlington Heights. The gathering at the Fox and Hound Restaurant was hosted by Northwest Suburbs Organizing for Action and the Palatine and Wheeling Township Democrats.

The President's proposals met with approval by the group. "President Obama touched on so many issues that are important to me, namely, gun violence prevention, climate change, and the Violence Against Women Act.  It was a great speech and I look forward to some concrete outcomes" said Kathleen Meier of Glen Ellyn. Schaumburg resident Diane Sloan said, "The President challenged both Republicans and Democrats tonight when he said that the families of gun violence victims 'deserve a vote.' It was a very emotional moment."

Joe Salvato of Mount Prospect said, "It is good to see the President addressing Climate Change and to align some of the fixes with positive economic impact." "It was great to see so many people from our area who are committed to getting involved," said Bill Davis of Arlington Heights.

Northwest Suburbs Organizing for Action (NWSOFA) was formed by volunteers who worked on President Obama's 2012 reelection campaign. The group is committed to work for progress and social justice. For more information, go to www.nwsofa.org or call (224)241-2012.
