It's that time of year to head to the farmers market or your favorite store and gather up a bounty of apples. There are so many varieties to choose from that come in an array of colors and flavors. Not only are they a satisfying and nutritious snack on their own, there are many fun and easy ways to cook and bake with them.
One of my favorite appetizers or as an addition to any dinner, I pick up a loaf of crusty baquette and cut it into 1 inch slices. Then preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Thinly slice a Honeycrisp apple. Spread a little butter or margarine on top of each slice of bread. Lay a few thin slices of your favorite cheese such as guyure or white cheddar ontop of each bread slice. Then top each one with a few thin slices of apple. Place the bread slices on a foil lined cookie sheet and into the oven they go until the cheese just starts to melt. Remove from the oven and serve warm or at room temperature for a tasty fall treat.
A good finger food to serve the kiddies before trick or treating!
