Saturday, October 6th was the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) Cross Country Sectionals Race. This was a varsity level (7th & 8th grade) race for the best runners in this area to try to qualify for the state meet.
The boy's team finished second in the Sectional's Race and qualified for the State Meet which is to be held this Saturday in Bloomington, Illinois. Qualifying a team for state is an tremendous accomplishment. Considering that the Sectionals Race is a varsity event which is predominantly for 7th and 8th graders, that makes this a truly extraordinary accomplishment since St. Theresa fielded 5 sixth graders on their state qualifying team. Individually, St. Theresa earned the top two places at Sectionals with Joey Carlisle being the Sectionals Champion and Sam Brey the runner-up. The state meet will be a great competitive event for this team to finish their already successful season!
In the boys race the St. Theresa team was comprised of two 8th graders and five 6th graders. The boys team was made up of: Joey Carlisle, Sam Brey, Jason Doland, Ethan Kelly, Tyler Oberbroeckling, Russell Wagner and Timmy Carlisle.
In the girls race St. Theresa fielded a team comprised of all 6th graders who stepped up to the varsity level to compete in this race. The girls team was made up of: Grace Deyhle, Ritarose Battin, Sophia Youman, Emma Stern, Marley Neamand and Kate Nottoli.
These girls competed strongly and have definitely built a foundation for great achievements to come in the future.
