First night of Rotary a roaring success Club of Palatine's Oktoberfest success

Recap of the first day of Oktoberfest

First night of Rotary a roaring success Club of Palatine’s Oktoberfest

The 5th annual Rotary Club of Palatine Oktoberfest started Friday with our traditional parade down Slade St. with the Palatine Police Honor Guard. The outgoing King and Queen, Ken Chalmers and Bridget Witt crowned our new King and Queen for Oktoberfest, Jeff Johnson and Cindy Stoeckel.

Our mayor, Jim Schwants, gave a great speech on how this festival brings many people to downtown Palatine and that all of the net proceeds go to local and international charities.

The firkin (first keg) of Oktoberfest beer was blessed by Rv. David Mercer and then the mayor taped the keg and small glasses of beer were given out to all.

Then the band played En Prosit der Gematlichkeit and oaws, zwoa and gsuffa was roared from the crowd as they took their first drink of Oktoberfest beer.

The band Phenix started the night off with a mixer of German and non German music.  The crowd enjoyed the music, danced the night away and enjoyed the various German beers and food.

The late night music was from Die Musikmeisters.  The later it got, the crowd got younger and it was amazing how the 21-30 groups enjoyed themusic and fun and danced until closing at midnight.

The raffle baskets amazed everyone again and we want to thank the many donors that make these baskets so spectacular.

On Saturday, we will be having Family Day from noon until 3:30 with many activates and entertainment for children.  One lucky child will win a basket valued at over $1,300.00.

At 3:30 the Die Musikmeisters are back to start off the musical entertainment with the evening music by the return of the always popular Phenix.

I hope to see you today at Oktoberfest.  We will have great weather to go along with the outstanding programs.  For you football fans, of course we have the TV set up for the games.
