On Campus: Harper College to Host Panel on New Health Care Laws

Features of The new Affordable Care Act that go into effect on January 1st will introduce changes in the health care responsibilities of businesses and employers. Understanding these changes and how they apply will help professionals know what to expect in the new year.

To assist the process, the Harper College Educational Foundation will host The Affordable Care Act Summit, an event for small business owners, HR personnel, professional advisors and anyone interested in hearing experts in the health care field discuss the upcoming changes. The summit will take place 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 8 in the Wojcik Conference Center, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine. Breakfast and networking opportunities will begin at 7:30am.

A range of topics will be covered, including what the new changes mean for employers, how they will affect clients, market reforms in the upcoming year and more. Brian Cheney, Senior Director of Exchange Management at Blue Cross Blue Shield, will give the keynote address and moderate the panel discussion.

“The impact of the Affordable Care Act will be different for everyone,” said Tom Pyra, member of the Board of Directors at Swedish Covenant Hospital and an Educational Foundation Board member who will be presenting at the summit. “It’s important that we understand what these changes will mean for us and what will be required on January 1st. Educating business owners and professionals about this significant piece of legislation will hopefully clear some of the confusion and make for a smoother transition when this law goes into effect next year.”

Registration for the event is $25. To register, contact the Foundation at 847.925.6490 or visit harpercollege.edu/foundation. Registration is required by August 5.
