On Campus: New Harper Class Focused on iPad as a Business Tool

A new Harper College course will offer tips and tricks for taking an iPad from fun gadget to workplace staple -- increasing productivity in the process.

When Darrell Katz is away from the office, he fires up his iPad, not his laptop, to get work done – even when his to-do list includes faxing or printing documents or typing in pages of data.

“It’s all possible to do,” he says, “and actually quite easy.”

The Harper College Continuing Education instructor will offer tips for transforming the iPad from a fun gadget to an office staple in a first-ever Harper class this month.

The three-hour course, “iPad as a Business Tool,” will focus on using the Apple product and its apps to boost workplace efficiency. Students will learn to create, save and transfer files; collaborate with iCloud; schedule meetings and take notes; build PowerPoint presentations; and use specific apps to read documents and manage projects.

“Modern laptops have served us well for nearly 20 years,” Katz says. “It’s time to let them enjoy semi-retirement on the corner of your desk and let iPad take over.”

The class runs from 6 to 9:15 p.m. Monday, May 13 in the Harper Professional Center, 650 E. Higgins Road in Schaumburg. It is open to the public.
