Hawks Rout Moraine Valley and DuPage

The Harper College baseball team dominated Moraine Valley 14-1 on Thursday and swept N4C rival DuPage on Friday. Since returning from their spring trip, the Hawks are an incredible 16-2 and an unblemished 6-0 in conference play.

Thursday vs. Moraine Valley

The Hawks put up six runs in the first, four in the third, and four in the sixth on their way to a 14-1 seven-inning victory.  Eric Orozco (Melrose Park, Ill./Immaculate Conception) (2-0) tossed a complete game , allowing only one run on three hits for the victory.

Tyler Crussen (Wheeler, Ind. /Wheeler) led the Harper attack with three hits and three RBIs. Designated hitter James Ioriatti (/Hersey) was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Kevin Conrad (Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmot) and Anthony Beale (Chicago, Ill./Walter Lutheran) were each 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Friday at DuPage

Harper put together two dominating performances to earn 8-1 and 9-0 wins over DuPage. In game one, Matt Ittersagen (Wheeler, Ind./Wheeler) (3-1) allowed one unearned run over seven frames to get the win. Four Hawks – Chris Elliot (2-for-3, double, two RBIs), Kurt Becker (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) (3-for-4), Crussen (3-for-4, RBI) and Kevin Conrad (Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmot) (2-for-4) – recorded multiple-hit efforts.

Game two was more of the same as Brent Kiesel (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) (4-1) baffled Chaparral hitters, pitching a complete game shutout. Becker again provide a spark on offense, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Shortstop Theo Yfantis (Prospect Heights, Ill./Wheeling) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs, and Zach Jones (/Maine South) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Week Ahead (11 Games)

The Hawks (18-8) host Joliet on Monday and Waubonsee on Tuesday. They travel to Rock Valley on Wednesday before hosting College of Lake County on Friday. Harper finishes the week with a at South Suburban College Saturday and at home against Triton on Sunday.
