Palatine Salon Owner Donates $2,500 Prize Back to Charity

Lorrene Conino, owner of Salon Lorrene in Palatine recently won 2nd place in the Wella Hairdressers with Heart Charity Challenge. She took her $2,500 win and gave it back to C.A.T.I.F., a charity she's been involved with for several years.

Conino, who owns Salon Lorrene, 833 N. Quentin Road, also is the vice president on the board of C.A.T.I.F. [Celebrating All That Is Feminine], a local charity focused on empowering women in-need and at-risk girls to help them lead the best life possible. 

The award is based on the level of philanthropic efforts toward various causes. In addition to winning the second place honor, Conino also received a $2,500 prize. 

"I chose to donate the $2,500 back to C.A.T.I.F. We would like to establish a grant program to further assist those in need; these funds provide us with seed money for this exciting new project," Conino said in a press release. 

Conino also said that she is grateful for the fact that much of her staff, their friends and family members, have gotten involved and helped to grow C.A.T.I.F. since it was formed three years ago.  

C.A.T.I.F. has been a non-profit since 2010, and has raised $57,000 in funds which have been donated to various social service agencies in the northwest suburbs, the release stated.  

Among them are local charities Women in Need Growing Stronger (WINGS), Society for the Preservation of Human Dignity, Home of the Sparrow and several other social service and non-profit organizations. 

C.A.T.I.F. holds two large fundraisers each year, and one will be coming up in September. 

The 3rd annual Family Picnic Rib & Chili Cook-Off will be held on September 8, 2013 on Station Street near Lamplighters, 60 N. Bothwell Street from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m.
