Poetry Workshop with Janice N. Harrington at Palatine Library

Award-winning poet and children’s book writer, Janice N. Harrington, presents a poetry workshop on April 1, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Come learn how to use creative writing to relieve the stress of daily interpersonal challenges. Bring your paper and pen, or laptop to write. Then share your poetry with us in the workshop. Everyone attending has a chance to win a copy of Harrington’s book of poetry, The Hands of Strangers: Poems from the Nursing Home.

Janice N. Harrington’s writing reflects her beginnings in rural Alabama and her life in the Midwest. She won the A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize from BOA Editions and the Kate Tufts Discovery Award for her first book of poetry, Even the Hollow My Body Made Is Gone. Her second book of poetry, The Hands of Strangers: Poems from the Nursing Home, came out in 2011. She is also the winner of a 2007 National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship for Poetry and a 2009 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Award for emerging women writers. Her children’s books, The Chicken Chasing Queen of Lamar County (2007) and Going North (2004) have also won many awards. She is a former librarian and professional storyteller.
