Nicole Basil is the founder of Pedal Power.  She was just 8 years old when six years ago she was cleaning out her garage with her dad.  She had outgrown two bikes and when she couldn't find a charity that would take them, she decided to start her own.  Nicole's charity, Pedal Power, collects new or gently used bikes and every year donates them to honor roll students. Each year, she aims for collecting about 200 bikes from six donation centers, mostly bike shops, in Wilmette, Palatine, Evanston, Winnetka, Northbrook and Glenview. This year, donation day is Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Damaged bikes are donated to the Northside Learning Center in Chicago, which educates children with cognitive disabilities, to be used in its bicycle maintenance and repair course.

Your donations are tax deductible, you will motivate and reward a deserving child, you will have a cleaner garage, and you will give that bike a new purpose.  If you have questions, you can visit www.gopedalpower.com.
