Martin Luther King Special Observance at Friendship Village

Friendship Village of Schaumburg
will hold a special observance of Martin Luther King Day, featuring a unique
Community Mural of Inspiration.  During
the course of the day, residents, associates and visitors will have the
opportunity to write on a yellow paper cutout flame, about something that has
inspired them.  This will be attached to
a 15 ft. by 6 ft. black mural.  Event
coordinators are hoping that the resulting mural will hold hundreds of flames
citing sources of inspiration.

“Dr. King inspired us with his
words and actions.  Even all of these
years after his death, he remains an inspiration,” said Jeannette Magdaleno,
life long learning and volunteer coordinator at Friendship Village.  “This project gives us the opportunity to
pause in our day and think about him, as well as the good things in our own
lives.”

Magdaleno
said that groups from throughout the Schaumburg area have been invited to visit
and add to the mural on January 20 from 2-6 p.m.  Refreshments will be served. On January 21,
people attending the Unity of Faith gathering at Friendship Village will be
encouraged to participate as well.  For
additional information call Jeannette at 847-884-5539.
