Friendship Village to Host Unity of Faith Gathering

“This is a time to gather
people of faith to learn from each other’s traditions and support each other in
common concerns,” said Chaplain Shawn Kafader of Friendship Village. On
Tuesday, January 21, 2014, Friendship Village of Schaumburg will host the
Schaumburg Hoffman Estates Clergy Association Unity of Faith Gathering at
2 p.m. in Assembly Hall.

The event is traditionally
held on the day following Martin Luther King Day. The theme for this year’s interfaith
event is Readings, Reflections and Prayers for Peace. The
gathering will feature sacred readings, music and prayers from Jewish, Muslim,
Buddhist and Christian traditions with participation from Reverend Cindy
Wallace of Alexian Brothers Hospice, Janice Kennel Ropp of Christ Mennonite
Church, Reverend Linda Covey of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Rabbi Taron Tachman
of Beth Tikvah Congregation, Brandyn Simmons of Christ Church of Chicago, Dr.
Khalid Abdus Sami of Masjid Al-Huda Mosque and more. Special music will be
provided by the Friendship Village Choir.

Because Friendship
Village has a beautiful gathering space and is not tied to a faith tradition,
the event is traditionally in the community’s Assembly Hall.  “We are happy to host congregation members,
religious leaders, and people from throughout the community,” said
Kafader.  “Although this is not a worship
service, it’s always very interesting and attendees will leave feeling uplifted
and educated.  They’ll feel as if they’ve
had a spiritual experience.”
