Oktoberfest brings family fun downtown

The three-day festival kicked off Friday night and continues near the intersection of Slade and Brockway streets Saturday and Sunday.

The third annual Palatine Rotary Club's Oktoberfest continues Saturday and Sunday downtown.

Palatine resident Vita Wukovits took in the festivities with her family Friday night.

"It's fun, especially with the kids. It's a good place to bring them," said Wukovits, who planned on returning Saturday. "I look forward to the food. Just the whole atmosphere."

"It's a three-day event that hopefully will bring out between 8,000 and 10,000 people," Bickel said. "All of the proceeds of Oktoberfest are reinvested back into charities and organizations here in Palatine as well as some of the international organizations Rotary International supports."

The fest features German food such as landjager sausage and pretzels, and a pig roast. Vendors at Oktoberfest include Edelweiss Deli, Durty Nellie's, Slice of Chicago, and Morkes Chocolates. Beverages will include Dab and Radenberger as well as special brews from The Onion Pub & Brewery of North Barrington and a pop and water tent.  German wine also will be available with Dobby's World-Wide Liquors & Wines hosting a German wine tasting from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19.
