Why Go?: Shop for new and gently used books, cds, dvds, comic books and vinyl records. All proceeds will go to the Little City Foundation to support local disabled children and adults. Click here for more information.

2. County Fair

Where / When: , 1331 N. Rand Rd.; 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20

Why Go? Celebrate the start of harvest season! See all things country including antique tractors, farm animals, meet our friends from Flint Creek Wildlife Preserve, plus meet our local vendors partners who will be on site.

Pricing: Entry is free

Where / When: , 542 Colfax St., Palatine;  7 a.m. - 1 p.m.; Saturday, August 20.

Why Go?: Visit the 27 vendors who will be selling their farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, organic meats and eggs, cheeses, spices, olives, pickles and much more.

Where / When: ; 6:30 - 8 p.m., Friday, August 19.

Why Go?: The Y is open to everyone in the community. Parents and children can play games together, make crafts and discover new adventures. The Y is open for all ages. Parents must stay with their children at all times and pre-registration is required to ensure adequate staff and supplies.

5. Mike and Joe

Where / When: Durty Nellie's; doors open at 9:15 p.m., show begins at 10:30 p.m.; Friday, August 19.

Why Go? Hear Mike and Joe perform songs by Coldplay, The Killers, Fall Out Boy, Green Day and many more. 80s songs too. Must be 21 or over to attend. Visit www.mikeandjoe.com for more information about the band.

Where / When: , 50 N. Brockway St., Palatine; 6 p.m., Sunday, August 21.

Why Go?: The is hoping to bring everyone in the community out to this fun evening of events. Family activities, including children's art projects, and baggo will begin at 6 p.m. and then a movie, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, will start at 8:30 p.m. outside on the east side of the Harris Bank building. Please bring your own chairs. will have beer and pizza available for purchase.

Where / When: ; 8 - 11 p.m., Saturday, August 20.

Why Go?:  Take a free dance lesson, see professional dancers and students perform. Then dance, mingle and enjoy refreshments.

Pricing: $5 for Master Dance and Harper College students; $10 for general admission
